There’s a lot of buzz these days about essential oils. Many people are looking for natural solutions to support their family’s health and wellness in all areas and are turning to what nature has provided in the form of essential oils. Nature was man’s first remedy; everything we need can be found there.
What are essential oils?
They are highly concentrated extracts from plants and are 50 – 70 times more powerful than herbs. Essential oils are found in the seeds, bark, stems, roots, flowers and other parts of the plant. For instance, different citrus oils can be obtained from various parts of the plant: Wild Orange comes from the rind, Neroli comes from the flowers and Petitgrain comes from the leaves.
It is important to remember that not all essential oils are equal and what is on the label does not necessarily reflect what is in the bottle. (I have seen photographs a friend showed me of her friend who had some nasty chemical burns from Tea Tree oil bought from a market).
If you’re going to use them with children you want them to be the best possible quality. This is why I only recommend doTERRA essential oils. They are considered to be the most tested, most trusted oils in the world and they are ethically and sustainably sourced.
Plants are sourced from all over the world and are harvested at the most opportune time. Every single batch is tested by an independent third party to guarantee the absence of toxins, contaminants, microorganisms and to assure the presence of the desired therapeutic properties.
There are three ways to use essential oils:
Essential oils and education
Many people are now using doTERRA essential oils to support the health and wellness of their families and they are particularly useful when it comes to learning. Essential oils can be used to help with concentration and focus in staying on task. They can also help alleviate stress and improve mood.
An oil found to be helpful with motivation is Wild Orange. This oil has an incredibly uplifting and invigorating aroma. A few drops in a diffuser will make any room smell wonderful. If you don’t have a diffuser a few drops can be placed on cotton wool balls and placed in a jar close to where you or your child is working. This can be placed by the child’s bed so they get the benefit of it throughout the night.
Wild Orange is known as the oil of creativity, abundance and confidence. It has a calming effect and surprisingly is also helpful for sleep. It’s a good all-rounder for when children are facing the stress of exams.
Sian Goodspeed, Founder of Flying Start Tuition says:
‘I’ve been using doTERRA oils for over three years now, for a whole host of reasons, and my family and I love them. One of my favourite oils is Wild Orange as it smells wonderful and is really uplifting. In my spare time, I love to sing and am a member of two choirs and an acapella quartet. This is something I’ve come to fairly recently, having not sung since school - and even back then I tended to mime the hymns during assembly!
My new-found love of singing has provided me with all sorts of amazing opportunities and I’ve been fortunate to have performed with my choirs at some fantastic venues, supported some famous singers and even recorded a song at Abbey Road studios. A few years ago, I set myself the challenge of singing a solo on stage. This was a big deal for me since I suffered from serious nerves, causing me to shake and get terrible stomach ache. Wild Orange oil has been my saviour! Before a performance, I sniff the oil and rub it onto my belly and it really helps to relieve the butterflies in my tummy and gives me a real confidence boost. I always remember to take my Wild Orange whenever I’m performing and my fellow choir members love the aroma too!’
