So what's all this about NLP?

NLP stands for Neuro-linguistic Programming. It is all about the connections between our thoughts, our emotions and our actions; how we take in information via our senses and how we process it internally to arrive at the outcomes we reach. This includes how we experience the world, how we process and store information, how we plan and make decisions, and how we relate to others. NLP comprises a number of strategies which can empower individuals to take control of their thoughts and emotions in a positive way.

Sian Goodspeed, Flying Start's founder, became a certified practitioner of NLP in 2011. Inspired by the potential of NLP for enhancing children's confidence, independent thinking and learning, Sian decided to incorporate many of the tools and techniques into Flying Start lessons. NLP techniques are embedded into Flying Start lesson plans and staff are trained in the methods to ensure consistency across the company.

Sian says, 'We always start our lessons with a warm-up which involves moving about and getting into a positive mindset ready for the lesson ahead. It may sound like a small thing, but it can make a significant difference to the value each pupil gains from their session.'
