Tuition takes place each week during term-time, lasting either one hour or ninety minutes, depending on the course. During this time, pupils undertake a range of activities, including teacher-led and independent work which may involve computer tasks, worksheets and games. Teaching may be a mixture of individual, paired or small group, depending on the ages and abilities of the other pupils in the session. Lessons are designed to be interactive and fun. The varied activities and pace within each session, interspersed with active movement means pupils remain engaged and focused throughout.
At Flying Start, we recognise that children have different strengths and weaknesses. Our group lessons are designed to support pupils in their weaker areas and extend their strengths, enabling them to progress at their own pace. This approach, rather than simply focusing on the area that they find more challenging, boosts confidence and leads to a far greater sense of achievement. Small group sizes with a staff:pupil ratio of 1:4 allow time for individual attention where needed. Teachers use a range of strategies and resources to support children's individual learning styles and to keep pupils engaged and focused. Consequently, learning is accelerated and the majority of our students report significant progress in school within less than a term of embarking on a course.

Sometimes, children have very specific needs which would be best met within a one-to-one lesson. It may be that they have a learning difficulty or would find it difficult to cope within a group. Some children require an intensive burst of tuition to catch up in a particular area; other children require individual support for an entrance exam to a specific school.
Whatever your reason, if you feel your child would benefit from one-to-one lessons, please contact us to discuss availability and to arrange a free assessment session.
